Golfer’s elbow
Inner elbow pain when gripping, lifting or using force.
01
What it is
Golfer’s elbow affects the attachment of flexor and pronator tendons on the inner elbow. Golf is not required for it to occur.
02
Symptoms
Gripping or resisted wrist flexion may hurt. Finger tingling also warrants assessment of the ulnar nerve.
03
Assessment
Tendons, the medial ligament and the nerve are examined. Imaging is selected when it answers a useful clinical question.
04
Non-surgical treatment
Load modification and progressive therapeutic exercise commonly form part of care. Work and sport demands shape the plan.
05
When surgery is considered
Injections and surgery are considered selectively after confirming the source of pain and reviewing previous care.
06
Recovery and follow-up
Tolerance to effort returns gradually. Sport technique and work movements may need adjustment to reduce repeated overload.
Frequently asked questions
Is it the same as tennis elbow?
No. Inner and outer elbow pain involve different structures.
Why does my little finger tingle?
An associated ulnar nerve problem should be considered.
Can I keep training?
Loads and exercises are adjusted; increasing pain should not be forced.
Do I need MRI?
Not always. History and examination guide investigations.
When is surgery used?
For selected cases with persistent limitation and a confirmed diagnosis.
How long is recovery?
It varies with progress and activities. Function matters as well as pain.
